OVERVIEW 

Prepare for a career in this in-demand health field and learn theory and practice in a variety of settings. Our small class and lab sizes allow for individual learner support and more one-on-one support. Training culminates with a seven-week, pre-graduate placement experience working with a registered practical nurse.

CLINICAL PLACEMENT

All students will complete mandatory in-person clinical placement to support virtual classroom learning. All laboratory learning will be delivered in-person on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, and clinical components must be completed in an approved health centre/hospital facility.

CERTIFICATION / ACCREDITATION

Ontario College Diploma

Students also complete WHMIS and CPR certification while in the program. Upon graduation, students are able to write the registration exam through the College of Nurses where, upon successful completion, they will receive Registered Practical Nurse accreditation.

Becoming a Registered Practical Nurse 

The College of Nurses of Ontario requires essential skills and abilities. These include cognitive, communicative, behavioural, psychomotor, sensory, and environmental capacities, which are essential for professional practice. Details of these requirements can be found on the College of Nurses website.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including ENG4C or ENG4U, Grade 11 or 12 Science (C or U), Grade 11 Math (C, U or M).

Note: Recent FNTI/Canadore College Personal Support Worker graduates are eligible for transfer credits in Semester One.

Admissions Equivalencies
