Indigenous Justice

Bachelor's Degree

Status: In Development

The Canadian criminal justice system has a vast over-representation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples in every aspect of the network, including victims and offenders. Our populations have an urgent need to reclaim the administration of justice in our communities by reinstating cultural methods, traditional teachings and restorative practices in the justice process.

Students of the Indigenous Justice degree will explore the impact of the residential schools, effects of colonialism on traditional values and culture, as well as structural victimization.

By applying Indigenous worldviews, this degree program will focus on offense prevention, recidivism reduction, and wholistic restorative practices that build foundations of healing through practicing culture. Graduates of the program will have experience providing alternative measures for those who have come into conflict with the law.
