Working Effectively with Indigenous Clients
This training will provide learners with the foundational skills and competencies required to work effectively with Indigenous clients. Through discussion and activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the gifts, challenges and worldviews of the Indigenous Peoples they serve. Participants will begin to develop a “cultural toolkit,” filled with best practices and traditional techniques, for use in practice that will equip practitioners to respectfully serve First Nation, Métis and Inuit members and communities.
Learning Outcomes
- Investigate cultural considerations, strategies, and techniques in practice that lead to, or away from, effective and ethical work with Indigenous clients.
- Collaboratively develop a culturally and age-appropriate toolkit to use when working with at-risk youth.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate communications that strengthen respectful relationships when engaging with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
