Turtle Island History

This micro-credential will work to decolonize by examining history through Indigenous perspectives and exploring those of Europeans upon arrival on Turtle Island. The micro-credential focuses on critical examination of both Indigenous and European narratives, colonization strategies and their impacts, and movements toward the development of right relations in Canada. Learners will conduct historical research and engage in respectful discussion that will allow learners the opportunity to challenge their beliefs about the Canadian project aimed at the eradication and assimilation of Indigenous peoples.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss the history of Turtle Island with a focus on Indigenous perspectives and experiences.
  2. Recognize Indigenous and Settler perspectives regarding the concept of relationship to others and to the land.
  3. Focus on moving toward right relations between Indigenous peoples and Settlers on Turtle Island
