OVERVIEW 

Get your Social Service Worker diploma in as little as just two semesters with the FastTrack Program! 

As a graduate from an eligible Health or Social Service program, you may qualify for admission into the Social Service Worker Fast Track. Depending upon eligiblity, you could take one or two semesters of study followed directly by a semester of placement.  Please reach out to pathways@fnti.net to find out if your prior learning and experience qualify for this exciting program.

The Social Service Worker program is customized with unique, leading-edge Indigenous learning experiences and environments to prepare you with the knowledge and skills to enter into this rewarding field. Themes include social justice, empowerment of marginalized citizens and ethics. 

Learners will explore Indigenous community realities within the context of the human services field. Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding the world are examined and presented with knowledge and skills relative to Indigenous culture, values and practices. Students learn from an Indigenous perspective through intensive field placement and a culture camp experience that focus on personal growth, organization/community development, communications, program planning skills, interviewing/counselling, family and group work. 

FIELD PLACEMENT 

Your program includes field placement and volunteer opportunities that will give you hands-on experience!  

Over the course of your program, you will complete a field placement that focuses on practicing on working within an interdisciplinary team to provide client service and support. These real-world experiences are mandatory and are designed to allow you to integrate classroom teachings with professional practice.  

Through your placement, you will gain valuable experience that will help you understand the diverse roles, settings, and responsibilities of a Social Service Worker.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS 

Mental Health & Addiction Worker graduate from FNTI or Canadore College

or

  • University Degree or an Ontario College Diploma or advanced diploma in one of the following:

    • Mental Health and Addictions,

    • Child and Youth Worker,

    • Developmental Services Worker,

    • Nursing, Gerontology,

    • Early Childhood Education,

    • Recreation,

    • Community Justice Services,

    • Others to be determined by the Program Coordinator.

  • A minimum of 40 hours of direct experience with clients in a social service agency may be required.

ACCREDITATION 

Graduates can apply to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
