Significance of Land

Despite differences between First Nation, Métis and Inuit Peoples, each population carries a deep connection with the land. The land is an integral source of identity for Indigenous Peoples and the root of all Indigenous Knowledge. Each place-based population defines their traditional ways of knowing and being based on the teachings of the land. Micro-credential learners will explore how the values of respect, reciprocity, responsibility and balance relate to the spiritual connection Indigenous Peoples have with the land.   

Learning Outcomes

  1. Examine the relationship with land and geography on worldview through an Indigenous lens.
  2. Discuss the value of reciprocity in relation to land.
  3. Explore the impacts of dispossession and resource extraction culture on a selected Indigenous community.
