Significance of Land

Despite differences between First Nation, Métis and Inuit Peoples, each population carries a deep connection with the land. The land is an integral source of identity for Indigenous Peoples and the root of all Indigenous Knowledge. Each place-based population defines their traditional ways of knowing and being based on the teachings of the land. Micro-credential learners will explore how the values of respect, reciprocity, responsibility and balance relate to the spiritual connection Indigenous Peoples have with the land.

2. Explain the importance of having a reciprocal relationship with the land.

3. Discuss the themes of memory of, and connections to, place.

4. Collaboratively engage in the writing of land acknowledgements that can be shared at work.

5. Investigate the impacts of dispossession and resource extraction culture on a selected Indigenous community.
