Interviewing & Helping Skills

Family violence workers interact with extremely vulnerable individuals requiring support services during highly challenging and stress-inducing times. This training provides learners with the skills to provide clients with sensitive support through purposeful one-on-one conversations with family violence service seekers and users, situation assessments, and professional referral networks. Participants will gain knowledge and skills in equitable and well-established approaches to providing culturally-grounded services and supports. This training uses case studies to highlight the wholistic approach of supporting the Mind, Body, and Spirit for overall wellness.

Learning Outcomes

1. Gather information from individuals experiencing family violence to meet their needs of using best practices and in a culturally safe way.
2. Adapt supports and services to the needs of individual family violence survivors in a way that reduces conflict and increases wellness.
