Indigenous Garden Design and Teachings

Through practical activities and collaborative learning, learners will gain foundational knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous garden design, maintenance and planning practices. The Indigenous worldviews and skills required to demonstrate cultural fluency in garden design will be explored from a respectful and wholistic perspective.  Following teamwork and activities, participants will be able to practice Indigenous approaches such as seed saving, relational responsibilities, and traditional food teachings.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Produce a garden plan that includes a design, maintenance, harvest, and storage plan based on the knowledge and skills.
  2. Identify and define the cultural fluencies needed to work effectively employing Indigenous food practices such as seed saving, food nutrition, and traditional food teachings.
