There is an increased demand for qualified early childhood educators. Get the skills you need to start a rewarding career working with young children. This activity-based program is taught using a holistic approach in which the stages of a child’s developmental growth are emphasized including cognitive skills and socio-emotional development.
Graduates of our program find careers working in partnership with teachers in kindergarten classrooms across Ontario, as well as other early learning environments such as educational assistants (EA’s), resource programs, specialty and early learning schools, childcare centres or child home care providers.
Students will explore Indigenous community realities within the context of the early childhood education field. Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding the world are examined and presented with knowledge and skills relative to Indigenous culture, values and practices. Students learn from an Indigenous perspective through field placements with a focus on personal growth. Areas of study include organization/community development, growing communication skills, program planning experience, understanding child development and family dynamics through group work.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U).
