Creating Groups & Group Facilitation

Individuals experiencing family violence can be supported in many ways, including through group discussions and activities. This training will help learners acquire skills for coordinating culturally safe supportive group gatherings for individuals healing from family violence; gatherings may be formal guided discussions or casual conversation while doing a shared activity. Gaining knowledge of group dynamics will support learners working in both shelter and community settings. Learners will reflect on case studies to develop a framework for supportive group gatherings.

Learning Outcomes

1. Devise group programming for a shelter or community to meet the needs of individuals experiencing family violence incorporating fitting cultural knowledge.
2. Manage groups in a way that is supportive and incorporates appropriate approaches to healing.
