(Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ont.) -- Close to 20 youth began the four-week Youth Ambassador Program at the First Nations Technical Institute yesterday.
The FNTI Haudenosaunee Ambassador Program is an opportunity that cultivates young leaders, aged 17-24, through cultural, personal and professional training.
Program themes will be carried out by community leaders and cultural keepers, and include teachings based on Indigenous Knowledge, as well as event coordination and leadership development.
Youth attend full-day camp at FNTI every week day for four weeks and participate in workshops such as beading, storytelling, singing and dancing, drum making, corn husk dolls, nature walks, and wampum belts as they relate to cultural teachings.
FNTI is passionate about helping youth foster their self-confidence through embracing cultural identity, encompassed by spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical well-being.
The Haudenosaunee Ambassador Program was made possible by the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) Grant – thank you.
