FNTI is pleased to announce the recipients of the Al Bartlett Memorial Flight Award for 2015-16 – Daniella Petitti and Brett Kocis.
Petitti and Kocis are both first-year students in FNTI's First Peoples' Aviation Technilogy - Flight Program, offered in Tyendinaga, Ontario in partnership with Canadore College. This three-year, advanced diploma program is the only Indigenous post-secondary program aviation program in Canada and provides academic and hands-on flight training for students interested in in attaining a pilot licence or working in the aviation industry. The program attracts students from across the country.
Alan Richard Bartlett was passionate about flight and all things to do with aviation. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force maintaining airplanes from the mid 1940s until the 1970s. Al logged many hours as a bush pilot flying floar planes into Canada's North, doing test flights on homemade airplanes and teaching others to fly as a flight instructor for the Winnipeg Flying Club at St. Andrews Airport. Al Bartlett passed away on November 11, 2011. The bursary was created in his memory by his many friends and family.
